Professor Galen Karriker Helps the High School Band Prepare for State Contest
Professor Galen Karriker, from the University of Akron, worked with the High School Band on April 13, 2010 in order to help prepare them for the OMEA State Band Contest at North Royalton HS on April 24th.
Professor Karriker is an associate professor of music at the University of Akron. He directs the Akron Marching Band and the University Concert Band as well as teaching several classes on directing and music education. Professor Karriker is a Doctoral Candidate at Michigan State University.

Congratulations to the OMEA Solo and Ensemble Participants!
On February 13, 2010 at Springfield High School, twelve high school band students participated in the OMEA High School Solo and Ensemble Competition. All of the students represented Black River well performing 6 solos and 3 ensembles all together. The following are the results:

High School Band Students take part in Honors Band Concert
Five Black River High School students participated in the Tri-County honors band on February 7, 2010 at Wooster College.
Sam Banasek, Josh Dean, Alexis Homoki, Samantha Homoki and Tom Ziebro all auditioned at Smithville High School in November and made one of the Tri-County Honors Bands.
Rehearsals took place on January 11 and February 5 at the Scheide Music Center at Wooster College. All together the students put in eight hours of rehearsal time, for the concert on the 7th.
Congratulations to the students for a job well done! You represented Black River well!
